Fire & Life Safety Deputy Chief Art Bishop

Division Chief Art Bishop Division Chief Art Bishop

I started my career in the fire service in 1980 as a Firefighter for the former Lucerne Valley Fire Protection District. One year later, I was assigned the position of Fire Prevention Officer, and was then promoted to Fire Captain in 1984. I began working for the City of Victorville Fire Department as a Division Chief in 1989, and was also assigned the duties of Fire Marshal. In 1990, I created what is now known as the Inland Empire Fire Explorer Association.

In 1999, I joined the Apple Valley Fire Protection District as Division Chief in charge of the Fire and Life Safety Division, and Training. I was promoted to Deputy Chief in December 2007 with the responsibility of assuming operational and administrative responsibilities of the District in the absence of the Fire Chief. I oversee new construction, public education, fire investigations, fire and life safety inspections, and training for career firefighters. Our goal is to provide the highest level of life safety and fire protection for both the citizens and visitors of Apple Valley.

My wife, Kathleen, and I raised our two children in Apple Valley. My daughter is a school teacher, like her mom, and my son is a firefighter, like his dad. Both of my children are married and are now raising our grandchildren here in our home town.
