The recent fire storm in Southern California demanded the use of the fire mutual aid system. Fire agencies from up and down the state and across state lines responded to at least five different counties in Southern California. Apple Valley Fire District was no different sending engine crews at different times to Ontario, Fontana, Green Valley Lake, Running Springs and Lake Arrowhead.
For high desert residents, the focus was on the Grass Valley Fire in Lake Arrowhead/Twin Peaks and the Slide Fire in Green Valley Lake/Running Springs. As of November 1st, the latest fire details:
Grass Valley Fire: 1,247 acres burned and 100% contained, 178 structures destroyed and 22 damaged.
Slide Fire: 12,789 acres burned and 95% contained, 273 structures destroyed and 45 damaged.
Thank you to the thousands of firefighters who fought the inferno -- wherever you call home.
