No doubt that firefighters and other first responders continuously train for large-scale emergencies and disasters. In Apple Valley, volunteers are receiving that type of training as well.

C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteers were recently trained on the proper procedures for establishing an efficient multi- (or mass) casualty incident area. While C.E.R.T. volunteers are already familiar with the Triage system, training ventured into the proper set-up and the considerations necessary to establish a well-managed and effective triage and treatment area. The volunteers then practiced their triage assessment skills based on number of breaths, capillary refill and mental status of a patient.

After the training, FF/Medic Lyons advised the group that he is willing to work side-by-side with any of these well-trained volunteers during any type of MCI situation!
