Fire Explorers from throughout the Inland Empire tested their skills recently at the Annual Fire Explorer Muster. The event brought over 150 Explorers, advisors and their families to Apple Valley's Brewster Park. Skills were demonstrated in three different team events:
* Water Ball: Much like tug-of-war, this event tests the precise skill of shooting enough water directly on a ball to shoot it across a line while an opposing team is trying to do the same;
* Make-N-Break: A timed-event that tests the skills of teams in properly connecting and dismantling three pieces of fire hose; and
* Bucket Brigade: A timeless test demonstrating a team's coordination and technique for collecting and dispensing water from buckets.
The Fire Explorer Program consists of boys and girls, ages 14-21, who are interested in pursuing a career in firefighting. While learning the skills of the profession, the Explorer Program also teaches life skills that will support any career field.
